Holocaust survivor to speak on March 12
(Orange)—Santiago Canyon College (SCC) is hosting The Courage to Remember, a traveling exhibit produced by the Museum of Tolerance, the educational arm of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, now through March 18. Admission to the exhibit is free and the public is invited to attend. The exhibit is on display at the SCC Library, 8045 E. Chapman Ave., Orange.
The traveling exhibit is based on the internationally acclaimed “Courage to Remember” Holocaust exhibit of the Museum of Tolerance. The traveling exhibit was first made available in 1991. After more than 20 years, the exhibit that features nearly 200 original photographs in 40 full-color posters still offers compelling, new insights into the Holocaust. The exhibit’s poster series unfolds through four major themes:
- Nazi Germany, 1933-1938
- Moving Toward the “Final Solution,” 1939-1941
- Annihilation in Nazi-occupied Europe, 1941-1945
- Liberation – Building New Lives
During March, the college will also feature a presentation by Jack Pariser, a 84-year-old Laguna Beach resident and Holocaust survivor. Pariser is set to speak on Tuesday, March 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in SCC’s D-101. The speaker is sponsored by the SCC Speaker's Symposium and the SCC Foundation. Pariser, who has devoted much of his life to educating others about the Holocaust, oversaw the gathering of 152 interviews with Holocaust survivors in Orange County and Long Beach. At age 13 in 1942, Pariser, his parents, and his older sister, succeeded in escaping a Polish jail against all odds. That August, some 300 Jews had been shot and killed in his village—one mass grave contained 161 bodies. The Nazi Holocaust resulted in the death of six million human beings.
