Faculty Photography Exhibit Kicks Off SAC’s 20th Year Celebration at Santora Building


Santa Ana College’s faculty members and professional artists Sandra de la Loza, Phil Marquez, Gina Osterloh, Juliana Rico and Angelica Vasquez will present a photo and video exhibit to mark the beginning of a year-long art showcase celebrating Santa Ana College’s 20th year at the Santora Building in the Downtown Santa Ana Artists Village.


The photography exhibit will include over 50 original pieces by Santa Ana College (SAC) faculty artists ranging from mid-career to recent SAC graduates. Santa Ana College, which is marking its 100th year, established the gallery in the Santora Building 20 years ago and will dedicate the next 12 months to showcasing a variety of exhibits from various art forms to fashion.


An opening reception for the Faculty Art Exhibit is Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m., and the exhibit runs through Saturday, March 5, 2016.

The SAC Arts Gallery at the Santora Building was established in 1996 when then
Dean Thom Hill recognized the beginnings of an arts district in downtown Santa Ana. With encouragement from the City of Santa Ana, Artists Village was formed and Santa Ana College became the first educational institution to maintain exhibition space in the Santora Arts Building, a centerpiece of the arts district.

The SAC Arts Gallery at the Santora Building has been an integral extension of the college’s Art Department as an outreach tool and cultural resource for art students throughout the community. It is also the site of numerous college events including fundraisers, small concerts, poetry readings and original dance productions.


The art exhibit and February 6 reception is open to the public and reservations are not required.

About Santa Ana College Art Department
The Santa Ana College Art Department was established post WWII with just a few faculty members teaching in a temporary building on campus. Now in 2015, the department has grown to over 25 faculty members, full-and part-time, teaching in 17 separate studio courses and eight art history courses, as well as offering certificates and degrees in more than 10 art and photography disciplines. Its programming includes two art galleries offering exhibitions by renowned professional artists in the Main Art Gallery on campus and SAC Arts at the Santora Building in the burgeoning Artists Village in downtown Santa Ana.
