Rancho Santiago Community College District Sponsors “Understanding Your Rights” Immigration Information Forums

Forums Slated for March 10 and March 18 Are First in Series

(Santa Ana, CA) - Rancho Santiago Community College District will sponsor an “Understanding Your Rights” immigration information forum on Friday, March 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A second forum is planned for Saturday, March 18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The forums will take place at the Centennial Education Center, located at 2900 W. Edinger Ave. in Santa Ana. The sessions are free and open to students as well as the general public. Parking is also free.

Rancho Santiago Community College District and its colleges Santa Ana College and Santiago Canyon College are committed to providing a welcoming environment for all students, regardless of their legal status in accordance with California law, regulation, and policy.

“We are launching these forums to inform our students and hopefully ease their anxiety,” said Raúl Rodríguez, Ph.D., chancellor of RSCCD. “The Rancho Santiago Community College District will continue to support all our students, including our undocumented students. We will stand firmly behind FERPA regulations and protect our students’ confidentiality. We remain resolute in our mission to provide all our students access to quality educational programs and services that address the needs of our diverse students and communities.”

Attendees will hear about their rights from a panel of expert immigration attorneys and have their concerns addressed and questions answered. Information presented will include:

  • Recent developments with immigration law, including DACA
  • Students and community members’ rights when encountering members of law enforcement
  • California laws and policies affecting immigrants, including community college students

Community members and students who attend the forums will hear from members of the RSCCD Board of Trustees as well as the RSCCD Chancellor. Community organizations will be on site to provide information and key resources.
