Santa Ana College’s Big Band to Perform with Special Guest Jeff Driskill Nov. 17

Santa Ana, Calif. – With a powerful mix of trumpets, trombones and saxophones, as well as keyboard, bass, drums and guitar, the Santa Ana College Big Band will hold its annual fall concert on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Directed by SAC music department’s Michael Briones and featuring guest soloist Jeff Driskill on saxophone, the concert features several of Driskill’s arrangements and includes musical selections by Lee Morgan, Eddie Harris and Hoagy Carmichael.

The Santa Ana College Big Band has been performing the best of jazz ensemble music to generations of Santa Ana jazz lovers. According to Briones, the band, part of the musical instruction courses and activities offered at Santa Ana College, is often the first experience students have playing in college-level groups, but their talent exceeds all expectations. This fall concert is a must-see for jazz fans.

About Jeff Driskill
Saxophonist Jeff Driskill has worked with composer Randy Newman on the soundtracks for “The Princess and the Frog” and “Toy Story 3” and lent his talents to assist John Williams with “Tin Tin: Secret of the Unicorn.” He can also be heard as one of the featured soloists on Alexandre Desplat’s score for “The Secret Life of Pets,” and has been a member of the Academy Awards orchestra for several years. His musical credits include playing with Prince, Annie Lennox, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton, Neil Young and Fiona Apple, among others and has recorded with Eddie Daniels, Arturo Sandoval, Take 6, Patti Austin, Clare Fischer, Dianne Reeves and Hubert Laws. For over 10 years, Driskill has been a member of Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band and been a member of The John Daversa Progressive Big Band, which has a standing gig at Hollywood’s world famous Baked Potato. In 2016, the band was nominated for a Grammy for its live album “Kaleidoscope Eyes.”
