Santa Ana College Faculty Musicians Headline SAC PIANO EXTRAVAGANZA!

One Performance Only on October 29!

(Santa Ana, CA)—Santa Ana College faculty members Jungwon Jin, Brian Kehlenbach, Sungae Lee, John Marr and Hoang Nguyen will perform at the Santa Ana College PIANO EXTRAVAGANZA!! on Saturday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. The faculty musicians will perform on two Steinway Concert Grand pianos, with two musicians playing in each performance and the final performance featuring four performers simultaneously.

The EXTRAVAGANZA!! presents dual pianists on Sonata for Two Pianos by Igor Stravinsky, Suite No.2, Op.17 by Sergei Rachmaninoff, variations on I Got Rhythm by George Gershwin, Armenian Rhapsody by Arutiunian and Babajanian, and Morning Fanfare by Brian Kehlenbach. The evening concludes with a four-pianist rendition of The Stars and Stripes Forever for two pianos and eight hands by John Philip Sousa (arranged by Mack Wilberg).

Kehlenbach currently serves as chair of the Music Department at Santa Ana College where he was named Distinguished Faculty Lecturer in 1999. Kehlenbach holds B.S. and M.M. degrees from the University of Connecticut and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California. Kehlenbach has had his compositions performed at Carnegie Hall, the 2013 Aries Composers Festival in Colorado, and multiple other venues across the country.

Jin is an award-winning associate professor of music who has studied at the Julliard School and The Manhattan School of Music. Jin has been a prizewinner or finalist in competitions including the Julliard Concerto Competition and the IBLA International Competition in Sicily, Italy. She has recorded extensively and her work was featured at the Van Gogh Exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1999.

Lee completed her Doctor of Musical Art with distinction at the University of Southern California in May, 2004. Lee enjoys a versatile performing career as recitalist, soloist, chamber musician and competitor. She has won numerous competitions including the World International Competition and the World Piano Pedagogy Conference competition.

Marr is a composer, West-African/Latin percussionist, pianist, and lecturer. He was awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Composition-Master's of Music by Lloyd Rodgers at California State University, Fullerton. His works range from orchestral to electronic music using Vocaloids and Utauloids.

Nguyen is a classical performing artist, jazz musician, and professor. He studied at the Vietnam National Academy of Music where he won second prize at the Junior National Competition. Nguyen made his orchestral debut at the age of 13 as a soloist with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra at the Opera House in Hanoi.
