Four performances open March 27
(Santa Ana, CA)—Santa Ana College’s (SAC) Fine and Performing Arts Division presents its spring production Picasso at the Lapin Agile by American actor, comedian and SAC alum Steve Martin opening Friday, March 27. The romantic comedy, set in a Paris bar in 1904, answers the age-old question: what would happen if you walked into a bar and met Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein.
Picasso at the Lapin Agile will have four performances beginning Friday, March 27 at Phillips Hall Theatre, 1530 W. 17th St. in Santa Ana. Remaining performances are scheduled for Saturday, March 28; Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4 with all at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $15, and $12 for staff, seniors and non-RSCCD students; SAC and Santiago Canyon College students pay $9.99, while children age five to 14 pay $5.
Set in 1904, the story uncovers a young Albert Einstein and young Pablo Picasso who turn up at the same bar, Le Lapin Agile in Paris. On the verge of changing the world, both men wittingly debate the value of genius and talent. During the course of their discussion, the audience is introduced to a host of other characters, including an extremely familiar visitor from the future.
SAC adjunct theatre instructor Jay Wallace directs Picasso at the Lapin Agile. “Picasso at the Lapin Agile illuminates the human spirit,” describes Wallace. “The characters present themselves as quirky, sentimental and occasionally brilliant constantly striving for connections to ideas, success and others.”
