Santiago Canyon College Celebrates Earth Day on April 20

WHAT:

Santiago Canyon College (SCC) will host an Earth Day Event on campus to help teach community members how to preserve the planet. The event is free and open to the public, as well as students and faculty/staff.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to better preserve our earth, meet with vendors, and take part in an opportunity drawing organized by the Associated Student Government. Summer Marsh, SCC ASG director of green operations says, “We hope the attendees leave with knowledge about how to reduce harmful impacts on earth.”

WHEN:

Thursday, April 20, 2017: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Guest speakers will present from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
A tree planting ceremony will take place at 12:30 p.m. between the A and B Buildings.

WHO:

Over 20 Southern California vendors will exhibit their earth friendly ideas/products. Tropical Plaza Nursery Inc. of Villa Park has donated two trees to be planted in the A/B quad, as well as provided environment-friendly items for this event and for future use at SCC. Site One Landscape Supply of Laguna Niguel will demonstrate how residents can conserve water. Kubot Eberhart Equipment of Santa Ana will bring four pieces of equipment demonstrating new technology for controlling emissions and protecting the environment. Southwest Boulder & Stone of Escondido will display materials to beautify landscape with rockscape materials. Representatives from Toyota of Corona will showcase five energy-efficient vehicles. Guest speakers from Irvine Campus Housing Authority, Inc., and Adams Streeter Civil Engineering will discuss careers in Design and Engineering/Environmental.

WHY:

This Earth Day event is part of the sustainability strategies supported by Rancho Santiago Community College District. The RSCCD Sustainability Plan was approved by the RSCCD Board of Trustees at its meeting of March 9, 2015.
