(Orange, CA) – The 20th Annual “Changing Students’ Lives” Golf Tournament originally slated for April has been rescheduled to Friday, October 9, 2020 at Strawberry Farms Golf Club. Net proceeds from the tournament, which is sponsored by the SCC Foundation, benefit the Hawk’s Nest Food Pantry and Basic Needs Center at Santiago Canyon College.
“Our golf tournament is a great way to get outdoors relatively safely and take part in a fun activity that will make a difference to students at SCC,” said SCC Foundation President and tournament co-chair Larry Cohn. “The Foundation’s board believes very strongly in the value the food pantry and basic needs center add to our students’ academic success, all the more so in light of the economic chaos caused by the pandemic. We felt it was important to reschedule the tournament and commit to making it a success.”
To meet CDC distancing guidelines, limit group size, and keep golfers and event volunteers safer, team foursomes will tee off at assigned intervals from hole one, rather than participate in a shotgun start. First tee off will be at 9:00 am. Golfers will be asked to arrive 45 minutes prior to scheduled tee-off time to register, warm up on the driving range and partake in pre-game activities that will include a putting contest, player’s card games, a silent auction and brunch. On-course activities throughout the day will include a hotshot cannon and competitions such as longest drive and closest to the pin.
Registration is $250 per golfer, and includes a gift bag, 18 holes of golf, golf cart rental, driving range, and on-course and post-play food and beverages. There will be no dinner or awards ceremony; a virtual awards ceremony will be held after the tournament. Non-golfers can support this fundraiser by purchasing golf balls for the ball drop that will take place during the tournament.
