Santiago Canyon College Named a 2019-2020 Military Friendly School

(Orange, CA) – For the second year in a row, Santiago Canyon College (SCC) has been designated as a Military Friendly® school by VIQTORY.

“Having this distinction means that all of the efforts our team provides are validated,” said SCC’s Student Services Coordinator for Scholarship and Veterans, Elizabeth Bergara. “We pride ourselves in providing the best support for our veterans and military families, alike. Potential students can see this designation as a positive indicator of the support they will receive at our college while obtaining a great education.”

Although United States Navy veteran Elijah Martinez chose SCC for its proximity to his home, Martinez quickly learned about the number of services SCC’s Veterans Service Office provides for veterans and their spouses.

“The Veterans office is always there to help with paperwork and make sure all information is correct,” said Martinez. “We, as veterans, are constantly reminded of the benefits we are qualified for. We are always kept in the loop on things and the office makes scholarship, GI bill, and financial aid information easy to get.”

A psychology major, Martinez plans to transfer and eventually become a drug and alcohol counselor focusing on veterans. He believes he made the right decision to attend SCC.

“This is a great school and I enjoy it very much,” he said. “The campus, the staff and the students always seem to work together and are happy to be here. Networking is very easy here and the help we can receive almost guarantees success.”

Now in its 10th year, the Military Friendly® designation sets the standard for higher education institutions to provide the best opportunities for veterans and their spouses. Schools were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a survey completed by each school. SCC was one of 766 schools to earn the distinction this year and the complete list of 2019-2020 Military Friendly® Schools can be found at www.militaryfriendly.com.

About Military Friendly® Schools:
The Military Friendly® Schools list is created each year based on extensive research using public data sources for more than 8,800 schools nationwide, input from student veterans, and responses to the proprietary, data-driven Military Friendly® Schools survey from participating institutions.

The survey questions, methodology, criteria, and weighting were developed with the assistance of an independent research firm and an advisory council of educators and employers. Ernst & Young, a global leader in assurance, tax, transaction, and advisory services, independently evaluated the scoring methodology used for the Military Friendly® Schools list using the criteria set forth by VIQTORY. The services performed by EY were limited to advisory procedures and do not provide assurance over the scoring methodology.

The survey is administered for free and is open to all post-secondary schools that wish to participate. Criteria for consideration can be found at www.militaryfriendly.com.
