SCC Presents Fifth Annual Art Sale Nov. 16-17

(Orange, CA) - In advance of the gift-giving season, the Santiago Canyon College (SCC) Art Department is holding its fifth Annual Art Sale to help support its students and the department. The sale will be held on two days, Wednesday, November 16 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday, November 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The proceeds from the event are divided between the student-artists and the department, and the sale helps support SCC’s gallery and studio art classes.

The sale includes works across artistic disciplines such as drawing, painting, photography, digital prints, ceramics, jewelry, and small sculptures. Between 50 and 100 pieces are expected to be on display and for sale. A special feature of this year’s event is that it will take place in the SCC Art Department’s new gallery space, which was just completed last summer.

Robbie Miller, chair of the SCC Art Department describes the event as, “a great opportunity for people to collect art created by our talented students and faculty. Students gain a real sense of pride when the artwork they create is admired so much that it is purchased. Since a percentage of the sale goes to the art department, future students benefit as well."

The SCC Art Department offers classes in art history, painting, drawing/life drawing, 2D and 3D design, digital photography, graphic design, web design and mobile app design. Miller says that faculty in the department takes pride in teaching traditional aesthetics with a contemporary approach. Students learn a range of techniques from rendering, line work, and oil painting to digital photography and design. The art department also emphasizes conceptual analysis as a way for students to find their own artistic voice.

The Art Sale is not the only opportunity to enjoy student art at SCC as it is also showcased in the annual “Student Art Show” in the spring, and throughout campus.

Interested members of the public are invited to browse the art and purchase it. Cash and checks will be accepted.
