​WHAT:

Santiago Canyon College (SCC) will present Core Ensemble’s production of “Tres Vidas,” a one-woman, three-act live music theatre production, celebrating the lives of three legendary Latin American Women: Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, Salvadoran peasant activist Rufina Amaya and Argentinean poet Alfonsina Storni. The performance features a wide stylistic range of music, including popular and folk songs of Mexico, El Salvador and Argentina. There will be an opportunity for Q&A at the end of the performance.

WHEN:

The one-time performance is open to the public on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 1:30 p.m. -2:30 p.m.

WHO:

With a script written by Chilean scholar and award-winning writer Marjorie Agosin and a musical score including arrangements of traditional Latin American folk songs performed by pianist Bryon Sean, the production will also feature vocals sung by Rosa Rodriguez. Rodriguez stars as the three heroines, with storylines including Frida Kahlo’s relationship with painter Diego Rivera, Rufina Amaya’s survival of the massacre at El Mozote, and Alfonsina Storni’s lifelong challenges as Argentina’s first great feminist poet. Vocal and instrumental tangos by Carlos Gardel and Astor Piazzolla will be performed. Original music written for Core Ensemble is composed by Osvaldo Golijov, Orlando Garcia, Pablo Ortiz and Manuel DeMurga.

WHY:

“Tres Vidas” celebrates the life, times and work of three significant Latin and South American women. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the stories performed will serve as an ideal way to remember and honor these fallen artists and the culture they called their own.

Event is free and open to the public, but paying for parking is required. A campus map is available indicating where $2 parking passes may be purchased.

This event is presented by SCC’s Women’s Studies Department, with sponsorship from the Office of Student Equity and Success and support from the Office of Student Life and Leadership and the Associated Student Government.
