Santiago Canyon College’s Construction Program Receives Fifth Place National Ranking

The Santiago Canyon College (SCC) construction program recently received a fifth place ranking among the top 10 colleges nationwide for construction degrees from Schools.com.

The data utilized to determine the recognition, complied from the National Center for Education Statistics, included affordability, flexibility and student success.

SCC offers an associate of science and certificate of achievement in construction management, construction inspection and environmental management, as well as a certificate of proficiency in code enforcement.

“Our program is highly regarded by many public works professionals in Southern California, and the commitment by our faculty to the development of our students is unprecedented,” said Carlos Castellanos, SCC’s program facilitator. “With the recent introduction of SB-1 Transportation Funding and the departure of baby boomers from the workforce, we’re excited for the opportunity to educate and mentor the next generation of public works employees to meet the latest industry demands.”

SCC’s course content is designed to provide students entering the public works field and current public works employees with coursework that not only improves their employability, but also is relative to the field of inspection and related responsibilities.

The college’s construction management program has been developed for those seeking advancement into a project management role and includes a comprehensive understanding of project management principles such as definition, planning, group dynamics, workplace diversity, team roles and communication techniques, problem solving, evaluation and final closeout reporting on results. Most classes are offered in the evening, providing greater flexibility for professionals already in the public works field and students wishing to make a career change. Upon completion of the program, students and professionals are equipped with the skills needed to obtain employment in high-wage, high-growth careers within the construction field.

“As educators, there’s nothing more fulfilling than preparing students for careers that identify problems in our community and solve them with the highest standards of honesty and integrity, all while students achieve educational and career goals,” said Castellanos.
