Sync Mobile Devices with Email

Email, Calendar & Contacts

Mobile devices (e.g. smart phones or tablets) can sync with RSCCD email, calendar and contacts.


Sync an Apple Device (iPhone or iPad):

1. From the home screen, touch the “Settings” icon.

2. Next select “Mail, Contacts, Calendars.”

3. Select “Add Account” and choose “Microsoft Exchange.”

4. Enter the following account information:

a. Email:Enter your email Address (e.g. Doe_John@rsccd.edu or Doe_John@sac.edu)
b. User Name:Enter your login name (e.g. jd54321).
NOTE:The District standard User ID is now the Web Advisor ID (two letters and five numbers), some current employees may still be on the old format of LastName_FirstName.
c. Password:Enter your password for your network login
d. Server: mail.rsccd.edu
e. Domain:rsc (this is an optional field)
f.Description:If desired, an optional account description can be entered (e.g. Work Account).

5. Once the required account information has been completed, press “Done” to continue.The device will suggest synchronizing the Outlook calendar and contacts.To sync the feature, make sure “On” is selected. If “Off” is selected, that feature will not sync with the mobile device.

6. Under the Advanced Settings, turn on the “Use SSL.”This secures your email and must be selected or the sync will not work.

7. The ”Settings” under “Mail, Contacts, Calendars” will also have options for the number of messages that are shown, message preview, font size, To/CC fields, BCC yourself on all Emails sent, prompt before deleting message, push frequency, signature, and default account.


Sync an Android Device:

There are a wide variety of Android and Windows devices, therefore, each device may vary slightly in the location of the features, as well as how the required information is entered.

1. Locate the “Accounts” feature on the phone.This is usually in “Settings,” but on some phones may be located under “Mail.”

2. Select “Add Account” and choose “Microsoft Exchange.”

3. Enter the following account information:

a. Email:Enter your email Address (e.g. Doe_John@rsccd.edu or Doe_John@sac.edu)
b. User Name:Enter your login name (e.g. jd54321).

4. Check or select “Use Secure Connection (SSL).”This must be selected or the sync will not work. Do not check “Use Client Certificates” as the District’s system does not support that option.

5. Check or Uncheck the features to sync: Email, Contacts, Calendar, and/or Tasks.

6. The “Settings” will also have options to establish the push frequency, the sync period and schedule, default account, signatures, CC/BCC settings, files and downloads, notifications, deletion confirmation, message preview and other preferences.

NOTES:

  • It may take a few minutes for the device to fully sync.Email, calendar and contacts may not appear immediately, but will populate.
  • The employee is responsible for any data charges that their carrier may apply; the District will not reimburse the employee for these expenses.
